SMSA Application Pack

We are seeking to appoint 3 SMSAs to work at Abbot Alphege Academy.

We are a wonderful, growing Academy with a fantastic team of staff, really involved parents and superb, motivated children. We are housed in a beautiful new building in a lovely area of the city that is also still growing.

We are looking for 2 permanent SMSAs to supervise and support children at lunchtime, both while they eat and while they play. We are looking for people who enjoy spending time with children and find real joy in helping them play and socialise in the playground.

We are also looking for 1 temporary SMSA to spend lunchtimes alongside a child with SEND and help them to access successful and enjoyable lunchtimes. You will need to be committed to inclusion and, ideally, have had some experience with children with additional needs.

This is an exciting time in our school and the successful applicants will be expected to play a role in the development and growth of the primary school to reach its maximum capacity of 210 pupils over the next 4-5 years.

Duties include setting out tables, laying out cutlery, mugs and drinking water and ensuring that the dining environment remains clean and safe.  As a playleader working under the direction of the Senior Playleader, you will supervise the children in our outdoor play areas which include the playground and field.  Playleaders are expected to interact with the children while continuing to be vigilant, ensuring safe play. The ability to work as part of a team is essential to the role and we are looking for an individual who is prepared to support our kind and caring ethos towards both the children and other members of staff. The Bath and Mendip Teaching School (TBMPTS) provides a School Direct ITT programme that is well established and trains 10-15 teachers per year. Many, although not all, are mature trainees who are making a career change. Typically they are high-performing individuals who are easy to work with.  Schools Direct runs in partnership with Bath Spa University.

We are looking for someone with leadership experience, extensive knowledge of schools and effective teaching/teachers.

The position may be ideal for someone who has recently retired or reduced their time working directly in a school.    Days worked can be blocked, are flexible and holidays could be potentially taken in term time.

We are ideally looking for people who are flexible and able to cover  from 8.40am to 3.15 pm and who preferably could come in to cover sickness if called from 8 am.

It would be very useful when a time is arranged to meet the Head of School if  the  application form below is completed and brought with you along with the DBS evidence described as this would speed the turn around time for clearing a person to join our supply list considerably.

If you are willing to do cover for both Teacher and TA please indicate this on your form.

Please note, we cannot guarantee a set amount of cover per week, although in general those on the supply list have been utilised on a regular basis.

For teaching assistants, we require the minimum qualifications of 3 GCSE’s of A-C grades, 2 of which are English or Maths for supply applications.
